Using topics on the Automation List

These are the topics we support on the Automation List:

APPS (Application Questions and Problems)
BUSN (The Business of Automation)
COMM (Communications Equipment, Networks, and Protocols)
ENGR (Engineering and workplace issues)
HMI (Human-Machine Interface, and SCADA)
INFO (Information resources, documentation)
LANG (Programming languages)
MOTION (Motion control, servos, steppers, etc.)
NET (Local and wide area networking in factory automation)
OPENC (Open control: open interfaces, software and hardware)
PC (Computers in manufacturing, also hardware discussion)
PLCS (PLCs and related questions)
PROC ("Continuous" process industries, DCS questions)
SENSOR (Sensor technologies)
SOFT (Software, including programming, OS issues, etc.)

Using this feature means that ALL messages must have a Subject: line specifying the topic or topics which best describe the message. An example:

Subject: PLCS: PLC for collecting data

Note that the topic is followed by a colon (:) and that the actual subject information follows. If a message relates to more than one topic, you can include multiple topics in the Subject line:

Subject: PLCS: PC: Industrial computers vs PLC

Subscribers may choose to receive messages under any or all topics. Should a subscriber wish to change their subscription status, they would do so by logging into the Automation List interface at http://lists.control.com/mailman/listinfo/automation. Subscribers without Web access may change their topic selections by contacting the List Manager at listm@control.com.

Remember, you can always ask for assistance if you're unsure about how topic selection works. The List Manager is always happy to help.
